In this article, you will be able to find the answers to the questions you have always wondered about the vegan diet but never got the chance to ask...
Morgane, a translation student, agreed to answer my questions about her vegan diet.
As a reminder, a vegan diet consists of not eating or using any products derived from animal exploitation. So, no dairy products, eggs, meat, fish, or other animal products.
I thank her for taking the time to answer my questions honestly!
1- How long have you been vegan?
It's been a long time! I count from the moment I realised that I was interested in this lifestyle. I was 16, so that was 7 years ago. But it took me a few months from then on to integrate it into my daily life.
2- What are your reasons for becoming vegan?
At first, I found it interesting from a nutritional point of view, so for my health. That's what pushed me to learn more about Veganism. Then I learned that it was a lifestyle that could allow me to reduce my environmental impact and stop contributing to animal suffering. This is what motivates me equally today.
3- Have you ever had problems with deficiencies? Is it easy to replace your protein intake?
I have never had any deficiencies. I have already taken blood tests to be sure. However, I regularly take vitamins in the form of food supplements. But I know that many vegans do without, it's just a personal preference.
In fact, it's easy to replace your protein intake, you just have to eat a balanced diet.
4- What do you say to people who think that being vegan means eating only vegetables and seeds?
It's so wrong because I eat much more than that! It's totally possible to be vegan and eat junk food. Any meal you can imagine has a vegan version. For example, I regularly eat burgers, lasagna, cakes, pancakes, yoghurt... However, I still eat a balanced diet and vegetables! But it's not because I'm vegan, once again, just a personal preference.
5- What are your favourite restaurants and vegan brands in the UK?
I would say Wagamama as 50% of their menu is now Vegan. It's an Asian food chain. They have pad thai, rice, poke bowls... The one in Glasgow is excellent!
Then as for brands, my favourites are "Linda Mc Cartney", "Quorn", "Violife" for vegan cheese, and "Follow your heart" for their vegenaise (vegan mayonnaise).
6- What would you like to say to our readers who are interested in vegan cooking?
I think that people who are interested in this lifestyle should not put pressure on themselves. It's not all or nothing. And committing to reducing your meat consumption is already a big step. If everyone did that we would live in a better world.

Very interesting !!
